Is real life getting in the way of your health goals?

You want to live a healthy lifestyle. I see you! You’ve got big goals and you’re passionate about achieving them.

But can we be real?

Sometimes, despite our best intentions, shit happens.

Life gets in the way and we realize that setting that goal and having that passion isn’t necessarily the hard part… it’s sticking to our routine when life gets crazy!

Whether you want to eat out less, go to yoga more, do more self care, or something else entirely — all of us have healthy living goals and will face a time when it’s tough to be consistent with them.

So what do you do when that’s the case?

Here are a few tips to help you stick to your routine and not stress when life gets in the way:

  1. Take a deep breath and realize bumps are okay. Healthy doesn’t mean perfect. In fact, healthy means whatever works for YOU. And sometimes, that means taking a minute to pause and not get mad at yourself when you couldn’t fit in that yoga class because your car broke down/you had to work late/you had a bad day and really needed a nap instead.
  2. Sustainable is the word. I talk a lot about living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle, because that’s what makes consistency easier! If you’re taking spin class 10x a week because your neighbor told you that you need to but you hate spin class, guess how consistent you’re going to be. Not very consistent at all! Do what’s sustainable for YOU and YOUR lifestyle.
  3. Life your life. Routines are great. Goals are great. Consistency is great! But you know what’s really, really great? Living your life! Don’t lose sight of that when you’re working on those goals. In fact… if striving toward those goals isn’t fun and enjoyable and (relatively) easy to stick with, you might want to reevaluate how sustainable those goals are (see #2)!

Remember, friend: your goals should fit into your life, not the other way around.
