6 Tips For Traveling With Food

Mar 10, 2018

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I love to travel!

But what happens to our health goals when we’re busy traversing the country (or the world?!)? Isn’t it hard to stick to a healthy eating plan when you’re away from home?

Not at all!

Keeping up with your goals can be super easy… all it takes is some preparation.

Now, this isn’t to say don’t go out to eat/try new foods/etc. You already know that I’m a huge fan of living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle (AKA doing what works for YOU!).

But if you’re looking for a way to be consistent, keep up with your goals, and save some money by not eating out on that business trip/quick weekend getaway/impromptu family visit, then these tips will help!

Here are 6 things to keep in mind when packing meals for travel, so you can easily keep up with your goals no matter where you’re headed:

  1. You can take ANY, non-liquid food with you on a domestic flight. When I travel and am working on health goals, I’ll pack fully prepped meals! This includes things like ground turkey in baggies, protein powder, tuna, etc. I get all non-perishable items from Vitacost. Yum!
  2. You can also take liquids so long as they’re frozen or <3 oz. Freeze those ice packs or they won’t make it through! Also remember that random things like peanut butter are considered liquids, while protein powder is not (pro tip: you also don't have to write “not cocaine” on your powder. They know.)
  3. Prep your food in ziplock bags to condense/have room for more food (or, you know, clothes and such).
  4. Bring an empty water bottle you can fill after security so you can save money and stay hydrated.
  5. Grab your napkins/silverware/condiments from airport restaurants.
  6. Remember to take these tips and make them work for YOU! This isn’t to say “don’t be flexible.” It is to say if you want to pack your food so you can keep up with those health goals while you travel, you easily can!

There you have it! 6 easy tips you can use to help maintain your healthy living goals when you travel.
